PRIVACY THREATS:

While current technology can certainly be used for good (example:  locating a lost person using phone and wireless device info that transmits the user's location), it can also violate privacy rights by allowing government not only to track you but to "store such records and efficiently mine them for information years into the future."

Diet For A Hot Planet:  The Climate Crisis at the End of Your Fork and What You Can Do About It by Anna Lappe, 2010
If you've never considered how what you eat is connected with global warming, this is the book to read.  Is clear, down to earth, and has lots of helpful suggestions.

Twelve by Twelve:  A One-Room Cabin Off the Grid and Beyond the American Dream by William Powers, 2010
An interesting look at how one might substantially reduce their carbon footprint, even if not to the size of a Bangladeshi's.

Between Barack and a Hard Place:  Racism and White Denial in the Age of Obama by Tim Wise, 2009.
Very sad to see the racist behavior by N.O. police officers after Katrina.  While this happened during the Bush administration, the book show that there was no sudden eradication of racism just because Obama was elected.
